Merry Christmas

This is a painting of The Shadow and Ghost. Its my second oil painting. The canvas is 18X24.
I found a Ghost Comic book that Adam Hughes penciled at this antique shop. So being a fan of Ghost and Adam Hughes, I bought it. Ghost kind of resembles the Shadow even though their powers are totally different. I wanted to make a painting of them together. While researching the Ghost I found that the book I purchased at the antique store was her first appearance. How Lucky is that. Another neat coincidence was Dark Horse comics have already published a mini series with the two characters together.
This picture was inspired by the Mike Kuluta art work and Denny O'nell DC comics run back in 1973. The painting is still a work in progress so I'll post the final product soon.

Merry Christmas
Mike Loria out!

RISE ROBOTS, RISE! GARMIN GPS ADD

Making clip art can be fun.  Robby the Robot has always intrigued me.  This drawing is the red head step child of a school assignment.  We had to use clip art from the collection in our library.  The collection of clip art was in so much disarray that I decided to make my own clip art.  "Robby the Robot" was created in Illustrator.

TRICK OR TREAT? MORE VECTOR PLEASE.

CATWOMAN VECTOR MASK JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN

Just in time for Halloween.  Gotham Girls has put together a cost effective mask for todays economy.  Print out mask. Cut out mask, follow the dotted line. Punch out holes for the eyes and holes next to the ears.  Fasten string to holes next to ears.  Put on and wear.  PVC Cat suite not included.

This was last weeks school project. What do you think? Let me know.  The Catwoman text I made with the pen tool.  I recreated the DC logo.  Both Batgirl & Catwoman created with the pen tool.
Lots of fun!

New Painting

Well here is the first oil painting I've
done. The picture started out as a
81/2 X 11 drawing. I liked it so much I
wanted to paint it. The painting is
on a 24 X 36 canvas.

The painting has two deviants trying to
sacrifice a young raven haired woman.
The painting is of the Shadow. Sense the
Shadow has the power to cload mens minds
we see that the sacrificial knife has been shoot
in half. The two deviants are stunned.
The young woman surprised and saved.
This is a painting of the Shadow but you cannot see him, for he is the Shadow.
Enjoy!!!!

He Saved Bruce Wayne.

The Shadow again. I found all the old 1930-late1940's radio shows on Itunes under podcasts and best of all they are free. I cannot stop listening to them while I'm drawing. I've become a fan of this character.

Here is the pitch Ill draw a pin-up of any character for a copy of Batman 253 or 259. These books came out during 1979. Both books have stories involving The Shadow. One of the stories tells how the Shadow saved a young Bruce Wayne life. Cool. Well hope to do business.

Some Sequential Art No Word Balloons

This page was alot of fun. Its a short story that takes place in the roaring 1920s. My friend Andrew Konietzky wrote this story as a roll playing game like World Of Warcraft. I think he said the game went on for nine weeks.
Drawing a period peice is a challenge, you have to draw the land scape the cloths the hair styles etc, etc, etc to be convincing an accurate. Destination Swipe file. I did not have to go far for the desk. I own this desk. I collect old plastic radios and I wish I owned the one in the drawing. The phone the lamp and typewriter are mine too. I was reading an old National Geographic at school that interveiw Walt Disney. The artical explained his animation process. Walt Disney collected and used his National Geographics to reference clothing ,cars, and buildings. There is a picture of him standing in front of his collection with dates writen on top of the shelves 1900-1964.
References are a unsung hero in the tool pallet.
I got to go to school.
Well here is a page. I have three more pages I'll be posting soon. Take it easy .

The Shadow Knows, Michael Loria

I found on I tunes the 1930s radio show "The Shadow". Great stories to listen to while I'm working on my art. I found out that "The Shadow, aka Lamont Carnston" saved the young Bruce Waynes life. You can read that story in Batman #? well I know it the story was released in December of 1974. But the Shadow first apeared in a Batman comic book #253.

Here is a sketch. Enjoy

Welcome to Sketchbook Adventures!

I have always enjoyed stories of high adventure, mystery, Scifi and classic horror. Im a bit of a history buff too. I was comissioned to draw Captain America. They wanted him to appear relaxing. This peice just spawned out of my imagination. Normaly I charge more for multiple characters but this piece was so much fun to draw so I charged the regular price. I do a little graphic design on the side so I made this piece in to a period Life Mag. cover. Enjoy Capt. America, Bucky, Willie & Joe, an a faceless G.I.
